About EMDR

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It is a unique, powerful therapy that helps people recover from problems triggered by traumatic events in their lives and the problems they have caused, like flashbacks, upsetting thoughts or images, depression or anxiety. It can stop difficult memories causing so much distress by helping the brain to reprocess them properly, working with memory to heal the legacy of past pain.

EMDR therapy is best known for treating PTSD but can help with a range of mental health conditions in people of all ages including depression, anxiety and low self esteem.

.

My name is Emma and I am a registered mental health nurse with twenty years of experience working within the NHS. I am a trained therapist in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). This is a therapy which reduces distress and supports the brain in processing trauma.

I can offer you a confidential, professional and compassionate service, working with you on difficulties that you may be experiencing with your mental health. I recognise it takes courage to address any challenges that you may be experiencing. I will always try to make you feel comfortable in our sessions and set goals that will support your recovery. Recognising the significance of trauma and adversity in mental health motivated me to train in EMDR and this is the treatment that I currently specialise in.

I am a member of the EMDR Association UK as well as being registered with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council). I am a warm and attuned person and I believe that developing a connection with others is a vital part of the healing process. I believe that given a certain set of circumstances, any of us could experience mental health difficulties. Life can be stressful at times and we are all vulnerable to experiencing adverse life events or traumas that can affect our mental health. I can offer you a therapeutic space to learn new ways of understanding yourself and your experiences, enabling you to start to feel more comfortable and in control of your mental health.

In therapy, it is really important to have a connection and a feeling of being a ‘good match’ with your therapist. I therefore offer a free initial consultation call of around 15 minutes for you to find out more about what I can offer and whether my approach will suit you.

I have an enhanced DBS check and am fully insured. I have regular supervision with an accredited EMDR Europe consultant. I undertake regular continuing professional development and adhere to the professional standards of both bodies that I am a member of.
