Alison Fox
Welcome. I provide a warm, welcoming and safe space in which to make the changes you want in your life. I feel passionately about my work and believe strongly in the transformational change that psychotherapy can make to our lives. Deciding to go into therapy is not an easy decision. It is a choice that’s usually made because you’ve realised that help may be needed from someone other than friends and family, someone impartial and professionally trained. I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist with two decades of experience. I love my job and feel grateful and privileged to be able to help clients work through their areas of difficulty and make changes to their lives.
In this profile, I try to provide you with some sense of who I am and how I work, but often it is only by meeting face-to-face that you get a really good idea of whether it feels right. I therefore offer a free initial session.
Training, Qualifications and Experience
I am an experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist and I work with young people and adults. I have worked in mental health for the past 18 years and have been a practicing therapist for 15 years combining private work with employment in various organisations including Cornwall College, Xenzone and Plymouth NHS Adult Mental Health Trust, where I worked with adults who had complex and long-term mental health needs. I have experience in many different areas of mental health including relationship problems, anxiety, depression, abuse, suicidal thoughts, self-harm and bereavement. Many of the people I work with feel stuck or trapped in some way, in a job, or in themselves, or would like a greater sense of meaning in their lives. Some are struggling with their relationships and notice that the same difficulties keep coming up for them time and again.
The type of therapy I practice focuses on developing a greater awareness of your inner world, which in turn can help you to better understand your patterns and motivations and identify the issues and upsets that may keep recurring for you. It can help you to find a way to speak about things that are stuck, opening the door for a fresh perspective and leading to a fuller and more satisfying emotional life.
Additional Information
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their Code of Ethics. I practice from the beautiful and discrete Bird House, in the centre of Falmouth. I see some people for just a few sessions, but others I work with for a year or more. I like to work in depth so that people feel that they achieve not only symptom relief but also a deeper sense of themselves enabling them to become more resilient to what life might throw at them. Most people I see come for one session a week, but I am also trained to offer twice weekly therapy.
The cost per session is £70 with the initial session free of charge.
