Alison Fox

MSc Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, BACP and BANT Registered.

Welcome.

I am a BACP accredited psychodynamic psychotherapist with 20 years of experience supporting people with a range of mental health difficulties, including anxiety and depression.  I have worked across the NHS, charity sector and higher education, but now work solely in private practice. I feel passionately about my work and believe deeply in the transformational change that psychotherapy can bring.

My work is centred on developing a deeper awareness of your inner world — helping you understand the patterns, motivations, and recurring themes that may be shaping your life. You may feel stuck in yourself, in a relationship, or at work, or find that the same difficulties keep repeating despite your best efforts to change them. I offer a safe, empathic, and reflective space to explore what feels painful or stuck, and together we can find new ways of responding that feel more supportive and freeing.

I have a particular passion for working with neurodivergent clients, including those without a formal diagnosis, taking a neuro-affirmative approach that celebrates the strengths that come with being neurodivergent alongside the struggles.

Finally, as a qualified Nutritional Therapist, I can also consider the physiological factors that may be contributing to your difficulties. Research increasingly shows that imbalances such as nutritional deficiencies, hormonal changes, inflammation, and poor gut health can significantly impact mental wellbeing — and where these go unaddressed, therapy alone may be less effective. Where relevant, I can offer guidance on tests, diet, and supplements as part of a holistic approach to your care.

About my Psychotherapy Practice

The psychotherapy I offer is centred on developing a deeper awareness of your inner world, which can help you better understand your patterns, motivations, and the recurring issues or upsets in your life. You may feel stuck, whether in a job, in yourself, or in a relationship, and desire a greater sense of meaning or change. You may notice certain difficulties in your relationships keep repeating themselves.

A significant part of how we experience the world stems from early relationships and circumstances. Difficult early relationships can have lasting effects on your sense of self and resilience. My aim is to understand how attachment has shaped the way you relate to both the world and yourself.

I am passionate about my work and firmly believe in the transformative power of psychotherapy. If you choose to engage in individual therapy with me, I will provide a safe, empathic, and reflective space to explore aspects of your life—both past and present—that are causing you pain. Together, we will work on finding ways to overcome these challenges and make positive changes in your life.

I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their Code of Ethics.

About my Nutritional Therapy Practice

As a nutritional therapist, I take a thorough and individualized approach to understanding your health needs. Initially, I will ask you to complete a detailed health questionnaire that outlines both your physical and psychological symptoms, along with a food diary to track your eating habits. This information helps me gain a clearer picture of your current health and identify any potential imbalances that may be affecting your well-being.

Based on this assessment, I may recommend specific tests, such as blood tests to assess nutrient deficiencies, hormonal tests, or gut health testing. With all this data, I will create a comprehensive health plan that includes tailored dietary advice, lifestyle modifications, and supplement recommendations.
